Berkmann Triple-whammy
Representing three wineries in the UK, Berkmann Wine Cellars makes a strong case to be considered an Argentine specialist. Situated on tables 39, 40 & 41, their portfolio at the Wines of Argentina Annual Trade Tasting is as follows:
Masi Tupungato (Table 39)
Berkmann Wine Cellars will also be presenting the latest releases of Corbec, Passo Doble and Passo Blanco produced from blends of Argentine and Veronese varietals on the famous Italian producer's 160 hectare Tupungato estate. The winemaking technique of appassimento, for which Venetian-based Masi is renowned, is used in the production of its Corbec, whilst Malbec is double-fermented for Passo Doble. The Passo Blanco sees a modern Argentine blend of Pinot Grigio and Torrontés.
Bodega Norton (Table 40)
Bodega Norton will be showing the latest vintages of Norton’s ranges: White label (unoaked), Barrel Select (partially oak matured), and Reserva (French oak matured) as well as the 2006 vintage of highly acclaimed Privada. In addition, a new brand targeted at the multiple off-trade sector will be showcased for the first time at the tasting.
Finca Decero (Table 41)
Berkmann Wine Cellars will be introducing the latest addition to its Argentine portfolio, Finca Decero, located in Agrelo. Decero means ‘from scratch’: the single vineyard has been meticulously planned and planted only with red varietals deemed suitable for the local climate, and at 1,050 metres, is situated in the highest part of Agrelo. The current range of four varietals includes a Syrah and a Petit Verdot, a grape for which the winery is becoming renowned as a specialist.
